Crested Gecko Fact Sheet

We need to stick to Jesus and His teachings like the crested gecko can stick. By doing so you will never go astray. Always go to God's word for wisdom.

Their nickname is the "eyelash gecko." You can guess why.
Crested geckos do not blink. They moisten their eyes by licking them. (ew!)
Some are very vocal and make barking or squeaking noises.
The gecko has what is called lamellae pads. These are thin, plate-like structures that very close to one another, with open space between. Each of these is comprised of tiny hairs called setae.These allow them to grip on to imperfect surfaces and during 98 km/h winds!
They have a prehensile tail which allows them to grab onto vines and branches. It also has lamellae pads. If they lose their tail they do not grow it back.
These geckos were thought to be extinct until 1994 when they were discovered on some islands off the east coast of Australia.

Crested Geckos live and reproduce will in captivity. They are also omnivores which means they can survive on both plant and animal matter.

Just like our bodies need certain vitamins and minerals to stay healthy the same can be said for the crested gecko.

Calcium is very important in a crested gecko's diet. They have two small sacs on the roof of their mouths. If they are low in calcium this can cause them to be unstable, shaky, lethargic, and worse. This will also affect the gecko's offspring if there isn't enough calcium.

A the crested gecko will clean it's eyes from debris and to moisten them with it's tongue. The do not have eyelids.
